Frangipani Arts Hotel, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Backpacking in Cambodia. That is our initial plan but when we first saw a backpacker's hostel we change our mind easily. We are not ready yet. So I got my notebook our where I listed all the cheap hotels around Phnom Penh. From the place where the taxi drop us off we rode a tuktuk and went to the Frangipani Arts Hotel, I have read some good reviews about this hotel so this is the first place which we have gone to.

Frangipani Arts Hotel, is a very small hotel which only has 22 rooms and 3 floors. No elevator, no escalator just stairs. It was my first time staying in this kind of hotel and I am not very picky on how small or big a hotel is all I want is a comfortable and clean room. The most important thing for me is the towels, they must be very clean without any stains!

Unlike any other hotels their entrance is a narrow ally, as expected they also have a small area for the visitors and dining area. At one quick glance you can see everything that the hotel has to offer. The good thing about Frangipani  is they make up for the limited area. They serve well and the staff are very friendly. The rooms are nice and clean and most importantly it is air conditioned. We manage to get the room in the 1st floor which is a good thing since we don't need to go up the stairs! We have also noticed that there are a lot of people here (mostly foreigners) for business and leisure, so I guess it really has a good review since people keep on coming in.

Actual Expenses: All are in USD
- the people use US dollars and Cambodian Riel as mode of payment

Simcard with 1GB Internet                                    $    3.00
Taxi from airport                                                    $  12.00
Hotel (3 nights w/ bfast) for 2pax                          $135.00 ($45/night)

All of their staff are very helpful and friendly. They also can speak English well

Refreshments and cold towel to beat the heat in Cambodia

Their sink is to die for. I love the design!

Almost everything is made of wood which is nice as the design makes your eyes relaxed

They don't have cabinets, they just have a place where you could hang your clothes and a safety box. If you are planning to bring your laptop better bring a bag with lock just to keep your things safe

These Figurines are all for sale

As for their breakfast, they offer very limited choices. We had our breakfast there for 3 days and they only gave us the same paper where you need to tick which one you want them to prepare. There are only three cuisines: The Continental, Asian and American menu as they call it. Unlike any other hotel they only offer this type of breakfast and not your usual buffet since there are only 22 rooms and there kitchen as well is small. If you were to stay here for 1 week better check the food stalls outside. You have an access to every restaurant and the good thing is it's just walking distance.

Every breakfast the staff will give you this paper and tick which one you wanted them to prepare. Knowing me I always go for bacon and egg every morning.

Japanese Businessmen

American breakfast
Hungry boy

Combination of Asian (Fried Rice) and Continental (Bread and Jam)

Will I come back again?
Yes I will! I like their hotel a lot because of the comfort and the staff. If you can live with the same menu of breakfast everyday (but you can mix and match) then it is fine. All of the people here are nice and they will help you with a smile on their face

Suite Double                                     $80.00/night

*We did not book any hotel. We just arrive in the Frangipani Hotel and when we ask how much is per night they said it's $45/night, it's even cheaper than when you book in agoda or any booking site which they will charge you on top of the price dictated in the site. If you are going during off-peak seasons I suggest not to book a hotel as the price is actually lower once you get to the hotel (this is based on experience; not applicable in all places)
